Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, also referred to as CBT, is an evidence-based psychological treatment proven to be effective. This means that CBT treatment is not based on what people think might work, but what has been proven to work.  CBT is used to help people change thoughts, feelings and behaviors that are causing them problems.   CBT teaches us how to recognize and challenge unhelpful thoughts and replace them with more helpful or realistic thoughts which can lead to an improvement in mood.  Research has shown that CBT is an effective treatment for a wide range of problems (e.g., depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain, disordered eating, low self-esteem, anger problems, addiction).

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) teaches mindfulness skills to help individuals live and behave in ways consistent with personal values while developing psychological flexibility.  One of the core messages of ACT is accepting what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves and enriches your life.  Acceptance and commitment therapy invites people to open up to unpleasant feelings, and learn not to overreact to them, and not avoiding situations where they are invoked.  Acceptance and commitment therapy has been shown to be effective in helping those with anxiety, depression, substance abuse and stress.

Prolongued Exposure for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Prolonged Exposure therapy (PE) is an evidence-based psychological technique that is widely regarded as an efficacious treatment for post traumatic stress disorder.  PE is used to treat individuals who have experienced severe trauma and who are not able to recover without directed psychological intervention. Prolonged exposure is highly collaborative in nature and empowers clients to work through painful memories in a safe, supportive environment, enabling them to participate in activities they have been avoiding because of the trauma.
